If you’ve read the About section of this blog, you know that I write poetry and have a book out there called Rants. And yes, it’s available for purchase!
Here then, is a poem from the book. By the way, this poem first appeared in Gargoyle Magazine by Richard Peabody and then appeared as a spoken word track on the CD, Gargoyle: Issue 49. Check out the review.
Quick note: just because I write about something doesn’t mean I do it. I mean, I’ve also written about the Turks & Caicos, and I’ve never even been there. Just sayin.’
The Boyfriend Poem
I wanted to tell you
That I slept with your boyfriend
I tell you this so you know
How truly stupid he is
How easily swayed he can be
So you know
That he can’t be trusted
I wanted to tell you
That I slept with your boyfriend
Because –
I could
Because –
He was so easy
To seduce
Because –
I hardly made an effort
Because –
I giggled once in a while
At his sad jokes
Ran my fingers through my hair
Occasionally
To arouse him
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
He lied
And said you didn’t exist
And said you were a psycho
A bitch
A whore
And very demanding
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
I was thinking about infinity
Wondering
How far we will all go
To get what we think
We want
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
He wasn’t very good
In fact –
He wasn’t good at all
In fact –
He could use a few lessons
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
It wasn’t about
Hurting you
Though I might have
Or pissing you off
Which I might have
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
I got up quickly
When he was finished
And demanded payment
Not because I’m a hooker
Or anything but because –
Your boyfriend
Is a tremendous waste of time
And not necessarily energy
I wanted to tell you
That when I slept with your boyfriend
I decided that
You can do much better
So I broke up with him
For you
And saved you the trip
One response to “Poetry and other things writers make up”
The disclaimer was a nice touch. 😉
And to anyone out there thinking about picking it up, it’s well worth it! I bought my copy on Amazon.
